IN 2008, the IEEE GOLD Humanitarian Workshop brought together nonprofit organizations and students interested in learning how to personally apply technical skills and knowledge to foster humanitarian causes. In attendance was IEEE President John Vig, who discusses with the students the importance of staying involved with IEEE after graduation, and how IEEE expanding to be more then its name gives it credit for. Professionals from nonprofit organizations gave information on their organizations and communicated with students in a hands on session where participants solved engineering problems, collaborating together, and finally presenting their findings to the group. The workshop also gave students and opportunity to apply for IEEE Fellowships to fund their involvement in humanitarian projects.
