This talk reflects on the lessons from the 2G, 3G and 4G adoption in India, and highlights the new and different approach to 5G adoption. The uniqueness of the India market is emphasized using market data, pointing toward the need for a different approach towards standardization that will be required to enable this market. India’s framework for ICT standardization and the recent successes are presented. Finally a case is made for global participation in the Standards lifecycle, targeting the untapped potential of this market.
