Galvanic isolation is used in many power supply applications including not only traditional AC/DC, motor control applications
but also newer applications such as photovoltaic (PV) inverters, LED drivers and hybrid electrical vehicles.

but also newer applications such as photovoltaic (PV) inverters, LED drivers and hybrid electrical vehicles. In many cases,
the system architecture and performance can be largely dependent on isolation designs. This seminar will start with some introduction
to isolation and will review in depth various isolation technologies both in terms of signal transmission methods and isolation
materials, including traditional opto-couplers, and newer digital isolators, either using micro-transformer based isolation
or capacitive coupled ones. Both the signal isolation and power isolation are covered. After that, detailed isolation use
including current sensing, gate driver and communication functions in AC/DC, motor control, hybrid electrical vehicles, PV,
and various other power supply applications will be reviewed and discussed. Baoxing Chen is an ADI Fellow and his current
research interest is on integrated isolation technology and its applications. Chen has a Ph.D in Physics and a M. S. in EE
from University of Michigan. Since joining Analog Devices, Inc. in 1997, he has been engaging in material research, device
design, IC design and system architect. He pioneered integrated signal and power isolation using micro-transformers and has
been leading iCoupler and isoPower technology developments that has found wide commercial success. Baoxing has published over
25 papers in areas ranging from material, device, circuits and applications. He holds 20 US patents.
