Professional societies and conferences can wield a large influence on people’s careers between publishing papers, appointing people to committees, and increasing visibility of the members. Many professional societies and conferences mimic the broader issues of historically excluded people in engineering, though. Recently, many conferences and professional societies have included diversity, equity and inclusion chairs within their scope to increase the participation of a diverse group of individuals. In this talk, panelists will discuss their work increasing representation within their communities.
