IEEE Milestone Celebration | 50 Years of the Internet

Celebrate the Internet’s 50th anniversary! 

On 19 May 2024, 1,000 IEEE members and other internet enthusiasts from 56 countries participated in i50: A virtual celebration of 50 years of the internet. This live-streamed event featured speakers including IEEE Life Fellows Vint Cerf and Robert Kahn, fathers of the internet; Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Prime Minister of Greece; Amandeep Singh Gill, United Nations Envoy on Technology; Fei Fei Li, considered the Godmother of AI; Thomas Coughlin, 2024 IEEE President and CEO; and Sophia Muirhead, IEEE Executive Director and COO.

Hosted by People Centered Internet (PCI) Fellows Kate Wilson and David Kirkpatrick, the 19 May live-stream on IEEE.tv was part of a Triple Milestone series held on 17, 19, and 20 May.  The three events drew over 1,700 participants.
