IEEE works tirelessly to recruit young people into the various interdisciplinary fields of engineering. Women represent only 20% of engineers in the United States alone, and female minorities only constitute less than 10%. The IEEE's Women in Engineering series explores the careers and works of prominent female engineers and showcases what the IEEE is doing to recruit more women into the field. 

Cheryl B. Schrader explains the importance of female role models in engineering as a means of recruiting women into the field of engineering.
