Design Methodology for GaAs MMIC PA
Dustin Hoekstra and Jim Carroll
This presentation showcases the design of a high power, two stage, 1 Watt, X-band MMIC amplifier using one of the more common design methodologies in use today, the Cripps linear power estimation method. The design is carried out in AWR’s Microwave Office® software, which has a number of useful features for aiding in the design and layout of the circuit, including advanced control of the schematic and layout, EM simulation of large portions of the matching networks, and connectivity checking and net highlighting. These tools reduce errors substantially by the time LVS is carried out after the design process is complete.
