Despite the enormous success of deep learning in various biomedical domains, its applications to dental hard tissue conditions are underexplored, in particular for analyzing photographic dental images. To bridge this gap, we propose a deep convolutional neural network framework to identify dental hard-tissue conditions from photographic tooth images, and show its superior performance over a few popular learning models.
