IEEE's Power Electronics Society has been hosting Webinars nearly once a month as part of an ongoing series. These educational Webinars go into great depth about current issues in the developing projects of electrical engineers, such as methods of providing sustainable energy and the mathematical algorithms and calculations involved in making such energy sources work properly. Dr. Gerard Hurley goes into detail about the importance of magnetic component design and how the optimization of magnetic component design can greatly increase the efficiency of entire operations. He describes general design methodologies, then analyzes how to optimize these methodologies by optimizing the windings and frequencies of such. He also explains how to optimize the optimization process itself, describing a new approach to high frequency losses that eliminates the necessity of Fourier analysis altogether. Dr. Gerard Hurley holds a PhD in electrical engineering from the National University of Ireland. He is highly experienced in the field of electrical engineering, having worked for several large companies, and currently serves as a Professor of electrical engineering at the National University of Ireland.

Dr Gerard Hurley presents on magnetic inductor designs, design methodology for transformers, and rules for optimizing design of windings under varied conditions. He also explains how to avoid Fourier analysis when attempting to optimize windings.
