Hugh Herr, Professor of Media Arts and Sciences at the MIT Media Lab, discusses his career as an elite rock climber and engineer with Andreas Mueller, Chair of the RAS Educational Activities Committee, and Enrica Tricomi, Chair of the RAS Student Activities Committee. Professor Herr discusses his early success as a climber, the accident that resulted in the amputation of both of his legs, and the inventions he developed that enabled him to be an even more effective climber soon after his accident. Professor Herr also shares his perspective on the future of robotics, bionics, and human augmentation.
