Alan Weissberger

Biography

Alan is the Chairman of the IEEE Silicon Valley Technology History committee, Content Manager for the global IEEE ComSoc Community website, Manager and Moderator of the IEEE Member Discussion list, NA Correspondent for the IEEE Global Communications Newsletter, Chairman Emeritus & Advisor to IEEE ComSocSCV. Formerly an adjunct professor at SCU EE Dept, Alan is an IEEE Sr Life Member who also volunteers at the Computer History Museum, SIGCIS.org and ITHistory.org, where he writes technical summaries of lectures & exhibits.


Weissberger specializes in telecommunications and enterprise networking technologies, market positioning, competitive analysis and applications. He also does IP research related to telecom patents for clients such as Nokia and AT&T. Current projects include: telecom patent research, technology assessment, market &competitive analysis, web site content organization, product portfolio positioning & strategic planning, market sizing for wireless and wire-line telecommunications and open networking technologies. Other activities include: writing articles, white papers, tech briefs, application notes, customer testimonials, and internal documentation.

 

Clients have included network providers (AT&T, NTT, PacBell, US West, Entel &CTC in Chile, Telkom South Africa, Maroc PTT, China Telecom), equipment and IC co's & large end users. Alan was the principal architect for the European Commission’s multi-service, multi-country ATM network–the largest private network in Europe-from 1995-96.

Alan received the IEEE Communications Society "Volunteer of the Year" award in 2008, "Meritorious Service" award in 2009 and "Lifetime Achievment" award in 2011.
