Frequency Planning Synthesis for Wireless Systems Design

AWR’s frequency planning synthesis tool, iFPlan™, is an essential analysis tool when developing radio communications systems. iFPlan enables designers to effortlessly and efficiently determine spurious free bandwidths in RF/microwave designs. iFPlan gives engineers a greater insight into unwanted signals or spurs generated in a specified bandwidth. iFPlan is not limited to just analyzing spurs generated by a lineup of mixers. The RF lineup can consist of common components found in radio communication links. The iFPlan RF link can consist of parts such as amplifiers, mixers, and filters, and can be built up from a selection of commercially available parts or behavioral models. In addition, the number of conversions in the RF link is not limited to two. iFPlan distinguishes itself from other frequency planning simulation tools in two ways. In addition to spur analysis, iFPlan gives engineers the first cut of cascaded measurements such as NF, P1dB, SNR and IM3, as well as spurious free dynamic range. Secondly, iFPlan is seamlessly integrated with AWR’s Visual System SimulatorTM (VSS). Press one button and the RF link constructed in iFPlan is automatically translated to a VSS system diagram. VSS can then be used to account for mismatch between components, account for noise at image frequency, and run yield analysis and optimization. Engineers then have a choice of modulated signals and can perform error vector magnitude (EVM), adjacent channel power ratio (ACPR), and bit error rate (BER) measurements, among others. This presentation showcases the features and capabilities of iFPlan that enable efficient communications system design.
