Millimeter Wave Wireless Communications For Fifth Generation (5G)

This course covers the fundamental communications, circuits, antennas, and propagation issues surrounding emerging Millimeter Wave (including 28, 39, 60 and 73 GHz) cellular / backhaul and  wireless LAN applications. Originally delivered over 2 days, this course was developed and delivered by Prof. Theodore (Ted) Rappaport, a pioneering researcher in millimeter wave communications and radio propagation, and closely follows the most recent fundamental textbook on the subject.

This product consists of:

• Streaming access to an 11+ hour video for 365 days
• A downloadable e-textbook
• A PDF copy of the instructor's slides

Course content includes:
• MmWave promise and applications- a new frontier
• Basics in Ultrawideband digital communications: ultrawideband signaling, modulation, coding, equalization and MIMO communications
• MmWave Propagation, ray tracing, Channel Models, and Antennas
• RF and Analog Circuits and Systems for mmWave transceivers
• Ultrawideband Baseband circuits: A/D and D/A
• Beamforming, Networking and device discovery
• Modulation, Coding and Relay approaches for mmWave wireless
• Current 60 GHz mmWave wireless LAN standards

Learning Objectives for this course include:
• Gain a broad awareness of the opportunities, applications, and challenges surrounding millimeter wave (mmWave) wireless communications.
• Learn about early activity in fifth generation (5G) cellular standardization and ultrawideband WLAN and PAN networks.
• Learn the fundamental electrical engineering concepts, as well as theoretical and practical issues for mmWave communications, including communication theory, signal propagation, on-chip and in-package antennas, CMOS/MOSFET transistors, analog/RF and digital circuits, communication system design concepts (including beamforming, network discovery, and relaying), and current 60 GHz standards for IEEE 802.15.3c, 802.11ad, and ECMA.
• Gain an understanding of the open research issues that are presently of interest to the engineering research community in the field of mmWave wireless communications.
• Learn about additional reading material required to master the field of Millimeter Wave wireless communications.

The e-textbook "Millimeter Wave Wireless Communications," by T. Rappaport, R.W. Heath, R. Daniels, and J. Murdock is bundled with the course. Please allow 2-3 business days to receive the email instructions on how to download your copy of the e-textbook once you complete your purchase of this course. A copy of the instructor’s slides is also included as a PDF attached to the email with the e-textbook download instructions.
