Women of color currently make up less than 12 percent of the total number of scientists and engineers in the United States (NSF, 2019). In corporate leadership roles and entrepreneurship, this number is even smaller. Despite their technical aptitude, innovation, and ambition, this demographic continues to face serious barriers that limit their career success. This interactive workshop will bring together a mix of seasoned engineering and technology professionals and advanced technology degree holders to share research and experience-based best-practices aimed at helping women of color navigate the STEM industry in corporate America and as entrepreneurs. Participants will engage in interactive activities that will allow them to drive the workshop’s focus, connect with fellow women of color in engineering and technology professions, and reflect on actionable steps they can take to advance their ambitions.
Participants will leave the session with strategies for:
- Addressing the cultural and unconscious biases that impact their career
- Demonstrating strong leadership competencies that drive advancement (e.g., business acumen, strategic visioning, and relationship building)
- Accelerating success as an executive leader and/or STEMpreneur
