Ethem Alpaydin received his PhD from EPFL, Switzerland, in 1990 and was a postdoc at ICSI, Berkeley, in 1991. He taught at Bogazici University (1991-2019) and Ozyegin University (2019-2026), both in Istanbul, Turkey. He was a Fulbright Scholar in 1997. He had visiting researcher positions at MIT (1994) and Idiap, Switzerland (1998). He is a member of the Academia Europaea and the Science Academy of Turkey. His books, Introduction to Machine Learning (4th edition in 2020), Machine Learning (extended edition in 2021), and Fundamentals of Probability and Statistics for Machine Learning (2025), were published by The MIT Press; between them, they were translated into Chinese, Croatian, Finnish, German, Japanese, Korean, and Russian.
