Susan Dickey

Biography

Susan Dickey (Ph. D. Computer Science, New York University, 1994) is part of the ancient tradition of ancient IEEE members volunteering with the IEEE.  She joined the IEEE in the 1980s, when she designed chips for the NYU Ultracomputer research project and attended IEEE design automation and parallel processing conferences. Later while at California PATH 2001-2010, she was active in IEEE Standards work for 802.11p and IEEE 1609 as part of vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-roadside real-time safety communications projects. She spent the last 10 years of her career as a software engineer at Google, retiring in 2020. She worked on the Towns and Cities chapter of IEEE Planet Positive 2030’s Strong Sustainability by Design. She is the Secretary of the IEEE P7800 Working Group on “Recommended Practice for Addressing Sustainability, Environmental Stewardship and Climate Change Challenges in Professional Practice” and the Vice-Chair of IEEE P7803 Working Group “Inclusive Sustainable Smart Cities”.
