Session Title : Mentoring: An Essential Benefit for IEEE Members
Session Type : Breakout Session
Session Description : Mentoring is a valuable IEEE membership benefit, but creating, executing, and maintaining a mentoring program requires significant volunteer time and resources. Therefore, only a few IEEE OUs have been able to provide a high-quality mentoring program. The IEEE YP team piloted a new initiative where the YP Mentoring Program provided structured support (https://cmte.ieee.org/micromentoring) to address this gap. The YP Mentoring Program serves any IEEE OU of interest, provides tailored program design, consultancy, and volunteer support, and serves as a central hub for mentoring. Having the largest technical community is a “strength” to have an excellent mentoring program, but having a globally scattered community with different perceptions towards mentoring is a “challenge.” IEEE Young Professionals have set their targets on overcoming this challenge through the YP Mentoring Program and establishing a solid framework through which Mentoring can become a regularly available global member benefit.
Speakers Name : Pasan Pethiyagode, Hasala Dharmawardena

IEEE Sections Congress, the triennial flagship event hosted by MGA, brought together volunteer leaders from every member country to share ideas and solutions. IEEE Sections Congress 2023 was an in-person event.

Volunteer leaders worldwide met in the Shaw Centre, Ottawa, Canada, to exchange ideas and learn about the products and programs IEEE offers to members in their local areas.

There were dynamic and engaging networking sessions to exchange ideas and best practices. IEEE organizational units offered exhibit booths to provide information on IEEE resources and tools to strengthen and support vital units.

IEEE volunteers and members attended Sections Congress 2023 from 11-13 August 2023.
