Progress in High Performance Large-FoV Diffractive Optical Waveguide Technology

(2430 + Q&A) Dr. Kehan Tian, CTO, Goeroptics — With the rapid development of the AR industry, diffractive optical waveguide technology, especially SRG (Surface Relief Grating), has made significant progress over the past five years. This presentation will review the progress of different diffractive optical waveguide technologies used in various applications. We will emphasize the high performance large-FoV waveguide, including opportunities and challenges.
Bio: Dr. Kehan Tian is the CTO of Goeroptics and VP of Goertek Alpha Labs, where he leads efforts in pioneering the next generation of AR/VR optical technologies and micro-nano optical technologies. Before ascending to current role, Dr. Tian was the founder and CEO of Uphoton Technology Inc., which was the leading supplier of micro-nano optics and 3D sensing system. Uphoton was acquired by Goertek and merged with GoerOptics in Oct 2023. Before starting up Uphoton, Dr. Tian had worked as Research Staff Member (RSM) at IBM T. J. Watson Research Center and Semiconductor R&D Center. Dr. Tian holds a bachelor’s degree in Precision Instruments and a master’s degree in Optical Engineering from Tsinghua University, and a Ph.D. degree in Optics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
